Head-to-Head

Saturday November 2nd: Storm 5 @ Falcons 8
Sunday November 3rd: Storm 7 @ Falcons 0
Saturday November 30th: Falcons 2 @ Storm 5
Saturday February 8th: Falcons 0 @ Storm 8
Sunday February 23rd: Storm 7 @ Falcons 4
Saturday March 1st: Falcons 3 @ Storm 9

Storm went 5-1 against the Falcons, outscoring them 41-17

“I think the Bandits series was good for our group to get a little momentum going into finals,” said Storm goaltender Braeden Martell. “It was great for me. I played in every game, and I felt good. It was a good confidence boost for the finals.”

Martell replaced Paul Lecuyer in the Storm goal after he got into a first period fight with Zach Lance of the Bandits during Game Three on March 15.

“I knew coming into the game that I had to be a little more focused,” Martell noted. “Fortunately, I was in a good rhythm with lots of action, so it wasn’t too hard for me to come into the game.”

Martell only surrendered five goals on 83 shots in the series, which equals a goals against average of 1.80 and a save percentage of .940.

The Storm are looking for a return trip to the Central Canada Cup in St. Paul, Alberta after losing in the semi-finals last year in Flin Flon, Manitoba.

“We hear it from everyone in the community, not just on our team, about how we swept the finals and were close at the National Championship,” noted Martell. “I think pressure is a privilege. Our team deserves that pressure for what we’ve done this season leading up to the finals.

In the best-of-five semifinals, the Falcons went the distance against the Thunder Bay Northern Hawks while the Storm swept the Thunder Bay Bandits.

“Our team did amazing things together in the semi-finals,” said Falcons goaltender Kailen Scott. “It took us a little bit to really get going in the series, but in game 4 at home when we won 5-1 I think everyone noticed how good of a team we can be. I don’t think another team has the chemistry we do and when we work hard together, we can make great things happen.”

The Falcons were last in the Joe Ward Memorial Trophy Final in 2023 while the Storm are the defending league champions.

“The Storm are a solid team. They’re good in every aspect with lots of depth on their roster, but we’ve beaten them once and I know we can beat them again,” noted Scott. “It’s going to be a tight series, but I think we’ve got a good chance with the momentum we’re carrying. We just need to shut down their best guys and we can do it.”
