The Storm will soon be hitting the road to skate with the best Junior ‘B’ hockey teams from Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta.

They are representing the LJHL at the Central Canada Cup which runs from Wednesday April 17th until Sunday April 21st.

The Storm won both league titles at Fort William Gardens in just their second year as a franchise.

They first locked up the Brian Dell Memorial Trophy as the best team in the regular season on February 20 which was followed by securing the Joe Ward Memorial Trophy on April 4 as league champions.

“We were able to accomplish these goals by just sticking to the game plan when things didn’t go our way, and knowing that everything would work itself out as long as we stayed together,” noted forward Alex Smith. “It’s hard to just choose one or two guys that had a good post-season because the whole team played extremely well. That said, I liked the play of forwards Nolan Desjardins and Noah Broughton.”

The team will board the bus on April 15th to make the trek up to Flin Flon, Manitoba.

The Storm will face the host PBCN Selects, the Peguis Juniors of the Keystone Junior Hockey League (KJHL), the Saskatoon Royals of the Prairie Junior Hockey League (PJHL) and the St. Paul Junior Canadiens of the North Eastern Alberta Junior B Hockey League (NEAJBHL).

“It is incredible what this club has accomplished in such a short period of time,” added Current River Councillor Andrew Foulds. “It is a testament to owner Ryan Untinen, coach Robbie Untinen and GM John Saasto and the rest of the staff for their Herculean effort and hard work putting together and working with these outstanding players.”

“The Storm have contributed so much to the neighbourhood and community. The players have done a fantastic job on the ice but also have given back to the community. This team will represent Current River and Thunder Bay well in Flin Flon.”

The Storm lost just once in nine post-season games but know that the competition will get that much stronger in Manitoba.

“Each team will be skilled enough to win the tournament, but it will come down to who wants it more,” said Storm Assistant Captain Noah Broughton. “I would say that our team is built for this moment, and when the puck hits the ice, anything can happen.”

“We have done our homework on these teams, and I truly believe that we have a real shot at winning it all.”

All of the games will be played at the Whitney Forum in Flin Flon, Manitoba.
