Lakehead Junior Hockey League is proud to announce a new expansion team entering the league for the start of the 2022-23 season. Current River Storm will make their home in the northside of the city of Thunder Bay at Current River Arena.

Spearheading the new group is Robbie Untinen, along with his father Ryan. The duo is excited to get started and have already begun preparations.

Robbie Untinen, who will assume the duties as the team’s general manager and head coach commented early this week saying, “Not only will the players be able to compete in Junior hockey, but they will also be proudly representing the community of Current River. We want to create a team full of passion and respect for the game of hockey.”

The father and son tandem have been working tirelessly to recruit a quality group of staff members to help kick start their new Junior B program. Onboarding experienced personnel such as Bob DePiero, who will look after hockey operations, alongside John Saasto, the long-time Northern Hawks General Manager, the new group is poised for a quality start. Several other new faces will be playing prominent roles within the club and those announcements will be coming soon.

“Lakehead Junior Hockey League is excited to be in a position where we are growing the game at the local Junior B level,” commented LJHL President Josh Gribben. “We wish this new group nothing but success in their new endeavor.”
